Background-

Sumitomo Corporation has formed a capital and business alliance with MILIZE Co., Ltd., a Tokyo fintech firm that specializes in AI and data technologies for the financial sector, to create and sell new digital services.

Sumitomo will pair MILIZE’s technologies with the business base of the Sumitomo Corporation Group. Shingo Ueno serves as the trading house’s president and chief executive, and Toru Tanaka leads MILIZE as its representative director.

The deal comes as Japanese households show growing interest in building wealth. Rising prices and the expanded NISA system have fueled that interest, even though cash and deposits still make up a larger share of individual financial assets in Japan than in other countries. Advances in generative AI are also pushing financial firms to build services that use AI and data.

MILIZE offers wealth-building and life planning support to individuals and employees through financial institutions and companies. It also provides tools for risk management, data analysis and generative AI-based operations, and it builds AI agents for financial work.

Sumitomo Corporation made MILIZE a partner through its Digital & AI Strategy, a key pillar of the medium-term management plan, which steers how the group applies digital and AI tools across its businesses. The company said MILIZE also has the skills to fit its technology into each customer’s needs.

The partners plan to develop tools that support decisions for businesses and individuals, offer life planning help for employees and build digital platforms that link many services.

They will work with SCSK, an existing MILIZE shareholder, and roll out the technology across Sumitomo group companies and portfolio firms to improve operations and customer value.
