Meta has unveiled Muse Charm, a pocket-watch-sized device bringing its Muse AI agent into the physical world, at its annual Meta Connect conference.

The device lets users tap it to access Muse directly, bypassing AI apps on smartphones, reflecting Meta’s push to build its own platform independent of Apple and Google.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said personal superintelligence has emerged as a bigger and more immediate breakthrough than the metaverse, the digital platform that had earlier shaped the company’s strategy. He said Meta has shifted focus to building the best devices for personal superintelligence, adding that Muse will also be available across the company’s smart glasses lineup.

Muse has drawn millions of downloads recently, with some analysts calling it among the biggest app launches in the US since ChatGPT’s debut kicked off the AI boom.

Investor interest in Muse’s automation potential lifted shares of partners such as Shopify, while shares of companies including Booking and Intuit saw investors reassess their positions amid a shifting competitive landscape. Meta’s own shares eased slightly, pausing briefly after climbing nearly 12 percent earlier in the week.

Analysts say Muse Charm, with a 2-inch screen and built-in 5G modem, could appeal to Gen Z consumers drawn to nostalgic, companion-style gadgets, and focuses purely on AI interaction rather than calling.

Linda Sui of Smart Analytics Global said the device’s success will depend on offering functions other gadgets cannot easily replace, adding it is well positioned to build strong momentum among early adopters. IDC’s Jitesh Ubrani said it could appeal to those who prefer not to wear smart glasses.
