Background-

The British Business Bank has committed £2 million to Cambridge Capital Group (CCG) through the Haatch Angel Syndicate Platform, opening a new route to funding for early-stage UK businesses.

The money comes from the bank’s Regional Angels Programme and will sit alongside CCG’s own investments in qualifying technology companies that need capital to grow. CCG becomes the seventh investment partner on the Haatch Platform.

Based in Cambridge, CCG started in 2000 and ranks among the longest-running angel networks in Britain. It links business angels, private investors and family offices with technology-enabled firms. The group has invested more than £50 million in over 150 companies and recorded more than 25 exits. Founder Struan McDougall and director Jayne Parker lead its investment work.

Mark Barry, senior investment director at the British Business Bank, said CCG has a long record of backing deals that help close early-stage funding gaps. “Our £2 million commitment through our Regional Angels Programme via the Haatch platform will mean that more businesses are able to access the finance that they need to scale and grow,” he said.

McDougall said the co-investment adds capacity to members’ commitments and recognizes CCG’s long role in the British angel market.

Fred Soneya, co-founder and general partner at Haatch, welcomed CCG to the platform. He said the program lets angel groups add co-investment capacity without changing how they source and back companies, so more capital reaches businesses that need it.
