Background-

Synectics has secured contracts worth £1.4 million to supply surveillance and safety technology for a fleet of 220 new buses being rolled out by a UK regional authority.

The AIM-listed security, surveillance and operational intelligence group said its wholly-owned systems integration business, Ocular Integration, will provide a mix of advanced cameras, digital mirror systems and on-vehicle video surveillance technology. The systems aim to improve driver visibility, cut vehicle blind spots and offer wide video coverage to support passenger and road safety.

More than half of the new buses will also connect to Synectics’ Transport Cloud Services, giving operators quicker access to video footage and operational data. The company said this technology helps transport operators investigate incidents, claims and disputes faster, reducing disruption and financial risk.

The new fleet is due to enter service this autumn. Synectics said the win adds further commercial momentum for Ocular as it works to grow its presence in the on-vehicle transport market, while supporting higher-quality recurring revenue through its connected cloud services.

Amanda Larnder, chief executive of Synectics, said the award reflects growing demand for Ocular’s on-vehicle solutions and marks an important step in strengthening the company’s position in the sector.

She added that combining advanced on-vehicle technology with connected cloud services allows the company to deliver more value for customers while boosting recurring revenue, with a continued focus on converting its growing pipeline into further contracts and long-term growth.
